The members of venerable blues band Downchild, featuring Mississauga vocalist Chuck Jackson, walked away the big winners at Monday's 2008 Maple Blues Awards ceremony, held at the Mod Club in Toronto.
Band members took home a total of five awards, with Jackson capturing the Male Vocalist of the Year award. He was up against long-time Mississauga resident Danny Brooks as well as Jim Byrnes, Harrison Kennedy and John Mays.
Other Downchild members to win awards were Mike Fitzpatrick (Drummer of the Year), Gary Kendall (Bass Player of the Year), Pat Carey (Horn Player of the Year) and Michael Fonfara (Keyboard/Piano Player of the Year).
There were also several other musicians that regularly play Mississauga that also won awards. Jack de Keyzer won Guitarist of the Year while David Rotundo received the award for Harmonica Player of the Year.
