Norman Anderson died in hospital after being stabbed while in his garage on Hermitage Rd. in Malton, making him the victim of the city's second homicide of the year. Police responded to the call around 11:30 p.m.
Early Sunday, police arrested and charged Timothy Belisle, 38, with second degree murder. Belisle made a brief appearance in court in Brampton and was remanded until Feb. 11.
Police say Anderson and Belisle knew each other and were involved in a confrontation before Anderson was stabbed.
Neighbours described Anderson as a man who kept mostly to himself.
"He kept his distance," Len Hardy said from his doorway as he peered at the police tape surrounding the crime scene across the street.
Even so, Hardy said Anderson was known to both police and his neighbours because his house was the noisiest on the street.
"He'd had some domestics — verbal fighting with his girlfriend — and played loud music sometimes at night," said Hardy.
Neighbours said Anderson was a mechanic who often tinkered with cars in his garage and driveway. Police say they have visited Anderson's house several times in recent years.
Investigators don’t expect to make any more arrests. A post mortem is scheduled for this morning in Toronto.
