Enersource would be the lead sponsor of the build.
About 10 years ago, Habitat For Humanity's Toronto chapter built two homes in the Cawthra area of the city. The Streetsville build would be the inaugural effort for the organization's Mississauga chapter that was founded in 2005.
Habitat Mississauga Board Chair and President Doug Clark says Enersource is the first major corporation to officially commit sponsorship funds to the housing project.
According to Habitat For Humanity Mississauga’s website, the cost of building a single home in Streetsville will be $130,000. To date, they have raised $1,250 for the project.
The Mississauga homes would incorporate green technologies that will help the sponsored families to save energy, save money and minimize the environmental footprint on the surrounding community.
“In addition to the generous financial support, we’re excited to have Enersource’s expertise in energy efficiency to help us build a house that will have a reduced environmental footprint on the community,” said Clark.
Meanwhile,  Enersource employees will also lend a hand in helping to build the Habitat homes on dedicated Build Days, when they will provide assistance with major electrical work on site.
“This is a wonderful project for Enersource to fully demonstrate our commitment to the community in which we work,” said Norm Loberg, Chair of the Enersource Corporation Board of Directors. “This build will involve the community, our employees, our customers, as well as the new homeowners and is a perfect representation of how companies can bring their social responsibility programs to life in a very real way.”
This sponsorship, a two-year commitment, will mark the single largest financial donation from Enersource Corporation.
Over 14,000 families in the Peel Region are on a waiting list for affordable housing.
