Shortly after 6 a.m. yesterday, dozens of police officers in riot gear stormed Comfort Zone, on Spadina Ave., just north of College St.
They questioned the more than 150 people who were inside at the time and arrested 33 people.
A search warrant taped to the front window indicated police suspected a number of drugs were being sold inside the club, including marijuana, GHB (the date rape drug), cocaine and ecstasy.
Police said the undercover investigation into the club began about six weeks ago, when Toronto Police received information from Hamilton Wentworth Regional Police regarding the accidental drug overdose death of Andrew Fazio, 26. The investigation revealed that Fazio and his friends attended Comfort Zone, where they purchased, then consumed, illegal drugs, police said.
Prior to Sunday's raid, police had already arrested 13 people and seized close to $6,000 in drugs related to the Comfort Zone probe, which police dubbed Project White Rabbit.
Police also said that quantities of numerous drugs including cocaine, heroin and ecstasy worth roughly $30,000 to $35,000 were seized in yesterday’s raid.
Mississauga residents charged are Oscar Blair, 30 (conspiracy to traffic cocaine, trafficking a controlled substance), Kevin Couto, 21 (possession of cocaine) and
Michael Watkins, 32 (two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, allegedly brass knuckles and an expandable baton).
Police say they expect more arrests.
