"Lufthansa's new Toronto-to-Dusseldorf flights were launched in response to clear customer demand for high quality service," the German airline said in a press release it issued at the launch event at Pearson.
"Dusseldorf offers an escape from the pressures of many of the larger European airports," said Jens Bischof, Lufthansa's vice-president for the Americas. "It's a smaller, faster, less complex boutique style of travelling.
"The new route and first class service will allow Canadians to easily connect to hundreds of flights operated by Lufthansa and its airline partners with access to a worldwide network," added Bischof.
Passengers on the newly launched direct flights will be flying in 221-seat Airbus A340-300s, with premium services and amenities.
At the May 1 service launch, Lufthansa said it worked closely with airport authorities to ensure efficient on the ground service and short connection times. "With convenient departure, arrival and transit times, all of Lufthansa's customers get to enjoy a taste of travelling first class," it stated.
Lloyd McCoomb, president and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority said "the addition of this new route is wonderful news for passengers. Lufthansa continues to show that they are dedicated to connecting great cities around the world."
The airline now flies to 207 destinations in 81 countries.
