May 12, 2008 08:38 AM - A man who was paying for groceries at a 24-hour Dominion Store in the Meadowvale Town Centre early yesterday morning reached into a teller's cash drawer, grabbed a handful of bills and ran off with the money.
Peel Regional Police say the young man, who appeared to be in his teens, entered the store at about 5:20 a.m. and made two purchases with a credit card. As the second purchase was being completed and the 36-year-old female cashier from Mississauga was about to close the drawer, the man leaned over the till and demanded money.
The customer yanked the cash drawer open and took as much money as he could hold before running out of the grocery store.
Three other employees who were on duty at the time were all stocking shelves some distance away.
No weapons were seen during the theft. The cashier was not hurt.
Police are looking for a white male, about 18 years of age, about five-foot-six with a slim build and short, blond hair. He wore a blue baseball cap, a blue winter jacket and baggy blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the 11 Division criminal investigation bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 1100 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
