Saturday night in Washington D.C., the Canadian squad, with hometown players Jonelle Filigno and Robyn Gayle in the lineup, were blanked 6-0 by the United States. The Americans are the top-ranked women's team in the world.
"We never looked sharp in training (last week) and we certainly did not (look sharp) in this match," said Canadian coach Evan Pellerud, who saw his team give up five goals in the second half of the friendly.
"While the opponent was anticipating the situation and was determined in its tackles, our players gave the ball away."
It marks the 35th time the U.S. women's team has beaten the ninth-ranked Canadians in the last 42 meetings.
The last time Canada beat the Americans was seven years ago at the Algarve Cup tournament.
