For the first time this year, you are invited to participate in the inaugural residential garden contest as part of the Mississauga In Bloom program.
"Residents can showcase their talents for creating beautiful gardens and living green by nominating their own, their neighbour's or a friend's garden," said Hazel McColl, Mississauga In Bloom program coordinator.
"Gardens will be judged by the Mississauga In Bloom committee and evaluated on colour, varied use of plant material, imagination and creativity," McColl said yesterday.
A website is being set up to showcase the nominees.
The City has participated in previous portions of the national Communities In Bloom program for institutional gardens, but this is the first time individual homeowners have been offered the chance to participate.
One winning in-ground and one container garden will be chosen. The winners will receive a Mississauga In Bloom gift basket and move on to the national Communities In Bloom Miracle-Gro Residential Garden Contest.
They will also be invited to the Mississauga In Bloom community awards barbecue on Aug. 8 at Riverwood.
Submissions must include a brief description that highlights the unique features of the garden and up to three photos.
Nominations must be sent by July 1 to mississauga.blooms@mississauga.ca or be mailed to: 300 City Centre Dr., Mississauga, On. L5B 3C1. Mark your entry to the attention of the Mississauga In Bloom program coordinator.
