The first 300 children to attend the Lake Aquitaine Urban Fishing Festival, which takes place Saturday, July 5 in Meadowvale, will receive a free rod and reel.
The festival, which runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., gives budding anglers the chance to learn more about fishing and how to support conservation efforts.
Also, Mississauga Bassmasters will hold a child's casting contest for ages seven to 10 and 11-14. A barbecue is also planned.
All fishing during the event is licence-free, but children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The festival is organized by Credit Valley Conservation in partnership with the City of Mississauga, Credit River Anglers Association, Mississauga Bassmasters, the Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
