The popular On the Verandah music series continues Friday with a performance by folk duo Ablett and Cooper.
The series, which started in June, runs Friday evenings at Benares Historic House until Aug. 29. Musicians perform on the porch while the audience gathers on the lawn. All shows start at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is pay-what-you-can. Proceeds will be used by Friends of the Museums of Mississauga to bus students to Benares and Bradley Museum to participate in educational programs.
Don Ablett and Brent Cooper, previously known as Riverbend, collaborated on three tracks on Ablett's album, Just Off Main Street. Cooper got his start playing in the band, Mankind, in the early 1980s.
On July 11, as the series continues, harpist/vocalist Moira Nelson will be joined by cellist/vocalist Elena Jubinville to provide their modern take on traditional music. The performance will include a mix of a cappella harmonies, original compositions and traditional folk favourites.
The duo will also perform selections off Nelson's recent album, Echoes of Another Time. The 17-track album contains some of Nelson's most-requested Celtic and traditional songs from the United Kingdom and Canada.
The program also includes selections from Nelson's first two albums, After the Fall and Time Calls My Name.

On July 25, it will be an evening of blues, country and easy-listening when Gayle Ackroyd and Helena Kameka perform. Ackroyd is a guitarist while Kameka plays piano.
On Aug. 1, Ron Nagle brings his Christian country sound to Benares. Nagle has been writing and performing for more than two decades.
Last year, he released the album, Ron Nagle Sings Christian Country. It includes six original tracks as well as his take on some gospel standards.

On Aug. 8, Ackroyd returns for a solo concert blending acoustic and folk blues. Over the years, Ackroyd has performed at The Calgary Stampede, Mariposa Music Festival, Toronto Blues Society’s Women’s Blues Review and Brampton Folk Festival. She plans to release her new 10-track album, I Wish You Love, this year.

On Aug. 15, Folk On! comes to Benares. Led by Michelle Giacometti, the group will perform a program of 1960s' and 1970s' classics.
On Aug. 22, seasoned club vocalist Laura Thomas comes to town. Thomas performed at On the Verandah last summer and has also released the album, Simple Things.

The series closes Aug. 29 with a performance by Sandi Marie Porter and Guy Breau. The duo will perform a mix of originals and covers from artists such as Leonard Cohen, Emmy Lou Harris, Serena Ryder and Mark Knopfler.
