The nearly 200 participants in yesterday's Malton Peace March preached positivity as they walked a three-kilometre route around the community.
Participants wore special shirts and carried signs preaching messages of peace and tolerance during the hour-long march that started at Lincoln Alexander Secondary School and wound its way to the Malton Community Centre. The event was held on the second day of this past weekend's Malton Community Festival.
"It was anti-drug, anti-gun, anti-violence and anti-bullying," said festival past chair Helene Burrowes. "We were able to meander through the streets, which was different than in previous years. People would ask what we were doing and then would come to the festival."
The march was led by the Malton Victory Pathfinder Club's Drum Corps and its director Eddie Wilson.
Meanwhile, thousands of people came out to enjoy the two-day festival. Revellers enjoyed a barbecue, live entertainment, community and health displays, reptile show, nature trail walk, games for the children, Kabaddi and wrestling demonstrations and iPod giveaways.
