July 7, 2008 09:41 AM - You hear a good song on the radio and you feel like dancing: that's the concept behind Jamin'Cardio.
Jamin'Cardio combines exercise with the exhilaration of dance to provide a high-energy, dance fitness program. Residents young and old, including men and women, can attend three  free trial classes to see how dancing can help them achieve a higher level of fitness.
Owner and choreographer Marilee Arthur will be holding classes at the Premier Fitness locations at Erin Mills Pkwy. and Millcreek Dr. Anyone interested can attend three consecutive hour-long sessions on Tuesdays, beginning tomorrow at 8 p.m.
"I wanted to create something that people enjoy," Arthur said. "Having been in the fitness industry for more than two decades, I know people will not continue to do something they don't enjoy and for 80 per cent of active adults, that's exercise."
Considering the rising popularity of television shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars, Arthur believes most people enjoy dancing and it's something anyone can learn.
The one-hour sessions consist of routines done to a series of 14 songs. Participants follow simple dance steps that are repetitive and easy to learn, and most importantly, they get your heart beating faster.
Latin, swing, disco, and current dance crazes are delivered each class with high-energy dance music to keep participants smiling.
"It's not about being the perfect dancer, but about distracting our minds, being healthier and having fun," Arthur said.
