July 8, 2008 08:14 AM - Peel Regional Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 77-year-old Mississauga man was struck by a truck and taken to hospital yesterday morning in Streetsville.
Police say it was just after 7:30 a.m. when a garbage truck hit the man as he rode his bicycle in the northbound curb lane of Queen St., just south of Ellen St.
A 28-year-old Mississauga man was driving a 1987 Mack disposal truck in the northbound lane along Queen St. when the vehicle struck the elderly man from behind and knocked him off his bike.
The cyclist was transported to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto with life-threatening injuries. He remains there in critical condition.
Officers with the major collision bureau continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3410 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
