Ghent, who has published four novels, was to lead a workshop on the theme: Things That Go Bump in the Night: Abandoned Spaces and Haunted Places.
There's no word on rescheduling the event for a future date.
Ghent, who was born near Chicago but grew up in Woodstock, studied English literature at the University of Guelph. An admittedly passionate reader and writer, Ghent also studied novel writing and communications at the University of California San Diego.
Looking for more stable job, Ghent moved back to Canada to study landscape architecture at the Guelph university. She said she enjoyed the experience but it also taught her that writing was her first love.
After leaving the program, she wrote two novels the first year. Her first, Piper, was picked up by Orca Book Publishers in Vancouver and Ghent has remained an author ever since.
