Elkas, who gained prominence with the band, Local Rabbits, before going it on his own, will perform at a free concert at the Central Library Square. Show time is
7:30 p.m.
Having garnered a solid reputation after opening for artists such as Ron Sexsmith, Feist and k-os, Elkas released his first solo album, Party of One, in 2004. To hear the title track from the album, visit www.myspace.com/peterelkas.
Last year, he released the album, Wall of Fire. Several tracks, including Sweet Nancy, Fall Apart Again and Wall of Fire, can be heard on his MySpace site.
Elkas has described the album as "soulful and smooth, but with a rough edge," adding listeners can hear his love affair with the 1970s' sound on many of the tracks.
While touring as a solo artist, Elkas said he longed for the camaraderie of playing live with other musicians. So he assembled his band, often jokingly referred to as The Elkaholics, along with bassist Doug Friesen, drummer Gavin Maguire and keyboardist Jeff Heisholt.
The guys joined Elkas in recording his latest album.
"Choosing (Wall of Fire) as the title track for the record made sense because it’s about transition, the transition from one relationship to the next," Elkas said in press material for the CD. "And, going from the last album to this one has been a real transition from being alone and self-managed to getting the right people around me and the right friends who are as excited as I am about the project."
Elkas' appearance is part of the ongoing My Mississauga series. It runs throughout the summer and features concerts, sports, yoga, theatre, movie screenings and festivals.
