The Mississauga Tomahawks girls' midget team is on top of the lacrosse world.
The Tomahawks, undefeated this season, captured the Hamilton Super Series tournament last weekend with an 11-1 victory over Whitby.
"This team will be very hard to beat," said Tomahawks head coach David Babstock.
"The way we are playing and at the rate that we are improving, I truly feel that this is a team of destiny; our potential is unlimited," he added.
The Tomahawks went through the tournament undefeated in five games. The only blemish on the team's record was a 4-4 tie in the round-robin portion of the tournament against the same Whitby team.
“Our girls realized after that first game they had to improve on their defence," said Babstock. "That tie game was the best thing that could happen to us. The team realized they would have to play strong defence to win a championship."
Team captain Kelly Babstock figured in 10 of the 11 goals in the championship game, scoring six times and adding four assists. She was selected player of the game and was also named the tournament's most valuable player.
Leading up to the final, Mississauga beat the host Hamilton team 14-1, then toppled Elora 7-1 and goaltender Samantha Schmidt posted the shutout in a 5-0 win over Clarington Green Gaels.
The Tomahawks allowed a total of seven goals in five games.
The team is scheduled to play in one more tournament, in Clarington, before moving on to the provincial finals at the Whitby Lacrosse Festival next month.
