The foundation's Lifetime of Care fundraiser is garnering support from the community to build a 270,000-sq.-ft. facility, which is currently under construction, that will include 471 beds, labour and delivery rooms, a palliative care centre, a laboratory and expanded facilities for cancer surgery patients.
So far, the campaign has raised $15 million. The plan is to have the entire amount raised by 2011, when expansion of the new A and H wings will be completed.
“We completed a $50-million campaign last year, so it's a never-ending process,” said Norma Bandler, president and CEO of CVH Foundation. “But, in reality, the community owns the hospital, so the support of the community is vital. The government (Queen's Park) will pay 90 per cent of the construction costs; we have to fund the remaining costs plus 100 per cent of all new equipment.”
Craig Fleming, president and CEO of Enersource, handed the cheque to Bandler.
“We're proud of our commitment to the communities we serve through our Spirit of Giving program,” Fleming said. “The program encompasses four pillars - community, environment, health and safety. Our partnership with the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation is a wonderful opportunity to fulfill all four pillars of our program.”
