A Mississauga cab driver is facing impaired driving charges after a crash early this morning sent one woman to hospital and shut down the southbound lanes of Hwy. 404.
According to OPP, a taxi travelling at high speed rear-ended a pickup truck at about 3:15 a.m. The pickup was travelling southbound in the centre lane near Elgin Mills Rd. when the woman driving the truck noticed the taxi approaching in the rearview mirror.
"The cab rear-ended the truck, causing the truck to careen across southbound lanes and tumble through the grass (divider)," OPP Sgt. Cam Woolley told CTV News.
Woolley said the truck rolled numerous times before coming to rest on its roof in the northbound passing lane, while the taxi spun into the centre median and came to rest in the ditch.
The driver of the truck was airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police say.
"It was a seatbelt save," said Woolley. "We're thankful she didn't have a passenger."
The driver of the cab was not injured.
Police say the driver of the taxi was working, but was not carrying any passengers.
Sandeep Lal, 31, of Mississauga, is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 80 milligrams.
