July 11, 2008 12:57 PM - Who says there's no such thing as a free meal?
When the Keg Steakhouse & Bar opened a new restaurant last night on Matheson Blvd., near the Heartland Centre, they celebrated the occasion by hosting more than 150 big-and-little brother combinations from Big Brothers and Big Sisters Peel for a dinner party. And it was all gratis.
“Big Brothers and Big Sisters is a perfect partner for The Keg,” said Mychael Button, general manger of the new restaurant. “The Keg has been a mentor to so many young people over the past 37 years, and we know that Big Brothers Big Sisters shares this value with us. They are leaders in mentorship and understand the incredible impact it can have on a young person’s life.”
Button said it has been a popular tradition for the restaurant chain to raise funds for local agencies as part of an opening day ritual.
All guests at the grand opening feasted on The Keg’s legendary steaks and prime ribs in exchange for a $5 donation to The Keg Spirit Foundation. The restaurant said it expects to raise more than $5,000 in support of Big Brothers and Big Sisters Peel through the event.
Since 2001, The Keg Spirit Foundation has proudly raised more than $3.5 million for charity through restaurant openings, local fundraisers and the sale of Keg Branded products.
“We are certain that guests at The Keg will love this new restaurant,” said Button. The 8,000-sq. ft. contemporary eatery and bar utilizes a combination of stone, warm wood tones and clean, architectural lines to create a spacious atmosphere that feels cozy and private.
As always at The Keg, original art is a significant element of the overall atmosphere. The dining room will be complemented with a patio featuring a beautiful outdoor fireplace which will be the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing Keg cocktail or dinner under the stars.
The Heartland Keg Steakhouse & Bar is open from Monday to Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. Call 905- 502-0002. For more information, visit, www.kegsteakhouse.com.
