July 11, 2008 01:17 PM - Students from the Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production are staging a concert Wednesday to raise money for an organization that's working to stop the spread of malaria in developing countries.
The benefit concert, Get Loose At The Moose, takes place at Muddy Moose Tap Bar & Grill in Streetsville. Show time is 8:30 p.m.
It's in support of Spread The Net, a group that places insecticide-treated bed nets in the homes of children. The nets reduce the transmission of malaria by about 50 per cent and the mortality of children under five by up to 25 per cent, group members say.
For more information, visit www.spreadthenet.org.
On the bill for Wednesday's concert is Brampton's Dame and The Neighbourhood Against Us.
Dame, comprised of guitarist Faye Moreau, drummer Kayla Faye and
bassist/vocalist Katee Lee, has appeared on CBC’s The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos. To hear the music, visit www.myspace.com/dameband.
The Neighbourhood Against Us, a rock band comprised of four students from Metalworks Institute, opens for Dame.
Raffles and draws for a variety of prizes, including recording time at Metalworks Studios, a pair of Shure In-Ear headphones and tickets to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, are also on tap for the evening.
Tickets cost $3. Admission is restricted to those aged 19-older.
Muddy Moose is located at 6531 Mississauga Rd. N.
