July 15, 2008 04:43 PM - Sheldon Leiba, who has served as CEO of the Brampton Board of Trade the past seven years, is the new president and CEO of the Mississauga Board of Trade.
His appointment is effective July 28.
“We couldn’t be more excited to attract someone with such tremendous related experience, qualifications and leadership as Sheldon Leiba to take our organization to newer heights,” MBOT chair Jake Dheer said in an announcement today.
“In him, we have found a very successful chamber manager with a unique multifaceted skill set of strong organizational leadership, business and financial management, business services development, public policy and advocacy expertise, membership and stakeholder relations, marketing and communications, as well as a strong reputation for building a high-performance culture with staff and volunteers.”
Leiba holds a master's degree in public administration from Queen’s University School of Policy Studies, along with an honours degree in public policy and administration and certificate in urban studies from York University. Prior to joining the Brampton Board of Trade, he served four years with the City of Brampton as executive assistant to the mayor.
“Sheldon’s extensive understanding of Region of Peel and local issues impacting business, coupled with his strong government, policy and board of trade background, will keep the Mississauga Board of Trade at the forefront of issues,” said Dheer. “He was a natural choice for the position.”
Leiba said he’s eager to make the move across the border.
“As a large and increasingly diverse community, with a strong business sector, I am enthusiastic about the opportunities that the Mississauga Board of Trade has to enhance its contributions to economic development and quality of life in the city,” he said. “The social, political, economic and global environment in which businesses operate is changing rapidly, and membership in the Board of Trade is critical for business to receive invaluable information, support, and to make important connections to help them thrive and stay competitive.”
Leiba replaces Sheryl McKean, who left the position earlier this year.
