Goodwin, who owns The Village Gallery in Port Credit, said that with her latest showing, she wanted to get away from what can be stuffy art exhibition openings. So, she figured she'd bring in music, hors d'oeuvres and drinks to ramp things up while the artists display their works.
The second annual Art Social event takes place tomorrow from 7-11 p.m.
Featured artists include Cesan d'Ornellas Levine, Todd White and Steve Kenny, although there will be works from a variety of other artists as well.
"We figured it was the summer, so why not take things up a notch," said Goodwin. "There will be drinks, sushi and music. We wanted the atmosphere to feel like a party. It's fun to do something different from the traditional, quieter openings."
The featured artists are relatively new to the gallery.
Levine is a Toronto-based artist who strives to find "an energetic balance between abstraction and recognizable iconography" in her abstract pieces. White, who works out of Los Angeles, creates pieces that focus on the legendary nightlife of his hometown.
"Actually, there's a real correlation between our event and Todd's work," said Goodwin. "They're (exaggerations) of the Hollywood nightlife with people socializing, drinking cocktails, smoking and laughing."
Kenny, meanwhile, tends to paint florals on canvas.
"His work is spectacular," said Goodwin. "He creates these clean, beautiful images of flowers on stark-white canvases."
