The concert, featuring the bands Dame and The Neighbourhood Against Us, was a final assignment for the students in the school's event production class. After learning the theory in the classroom, the future rock music producers got the chance to put their knowledge to the test in a concert-hall setting.
"(They learn) there are some surprises putting on an event, but this is a fairly controlled environment," said Metalworks instructor Alex Andronache. "(The concert) is all their hard work."
The Get Loose At The Moose concert raised funds for the Spread The Net charity. The not-for-profit organization works to place insecticide-treated bed nets in homes of children in Africa and developing nations, saying the nets reduce the transmission of malaria by about 50 per cent and the mortality of children under five by up to 25 per cent.
In addition to the music, there were raffles and draws for a variety of prizes including recording time at Metalworks Studios, a pair of Shure In-Ear headphones and tickets to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
"You can't get much more local than this," said student Andrew Kim. "This is by local students with local music and local bands. It's a great time."
The students learned that concerts and events don't always go smoothly.
"It's pretty complicated and things can go wrong, but luckily the rain didn't come down on us," said Kim.
