Staff from Mississauga's Recreation & Parks department, under the supervision of Peel Regional Police, conducted a thorough search of Erin Woods Park this morning after a large amount of meat was found there yesterday.
The park was closed for a few hours, but has since re-opened and has been deemed safe, police said. The meat has been taken to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for testing, according to Peel Cst. Samantha Nulle.
The food will be analyzed to determine if it has been tampered with, police said.
Police said Mississauga Animal Services staff were informed about the suspicious meat by a concerned citizen and alerted police.
Erin Woods Park is located in the northeast corner of Erin Mills Pkwy. and Erin Centre Blvd.
Police are reminding people to keep a close eye on children and their pets when outdoors to ensure they don't accidentally eat harmful food or objects.
Anyone with information is asked to call 905-453-2121, ext. 1133 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Park re-opens following investigation
Staff photo by Fred Loek
Mississauga's Sheri Warner regularly walks her dogs through Erin Woods Park and last night she found three packages of ground meat behind a tree log just off the trail. Warner reported her discovery to Mississauga Animal Services and this morning a Mississauga Recreation & Parks crew investigated the park thoroughly.
