The park was closed for a few hours, but has since reopened and deemed safe, police said. The meat has been taken to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for testing, according to Peel Cst. Samantha Nulle.
The food will be analyzed to determine if it has been tampered with, police said.
Police said Mississauga Animal Services staff were informed about the suspicious meat by a concerned citizen and alerted police.
Erin Woods Park is located in the northeast corner of Erin Mills Pkwy. and Erin Centre Blvd.
Police are reminding people to keep a close eye on children and their pets when outdoors to ensure they don't accidentally eat harmful food or objects.
