The author, who has been writing poetry for more than two decades, said she tends to focus on the human experience, with particular attention to the trials and angst of people in transition and women in subjugation.
Antao-Xavier, who'll be joined by other authors, will be in the CCT Building from 10 a.m.-noon.
"Dance of the Peacock...is based on my experiences and observations as a religious and racial minority in the countries I have lived in," she wrote in an e-mail to The News. "Many of the poems are a celebration of multiculturalism as well as an honest insider’s perspective on where things haven’t quite lived up to the ideals that this country promises and which we, as Canadians, have come to expect."
The book is Antao-Xavier's first collection of poems and is published through In Our Words. The author serves as chair of the Peel Region branch of the Canadian Federation of Poets and is a member of the Ontario Poetry Society.
Antao-Xavier will also read excerpts from her book at the Canadian Federation of Poets meeting, being held this Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
She will also appear on the DesiLit Writers' Stage this Sunday in Toronto as part of the Masala! Mehndi! Masti 2008 festival. She'll be joined by a collection of authors, including Mississauga's Meena Chopra and Zohra Zoberi. It starts at noon.
