July 22, 2008 02:59 PM - Mississauga’s Derek Ralph has been selected to the Atlantic Canadians, who'll compete at the John Cunniff Chowder Cup hockey tournament beginning Thursday, July 24 in Walpole, Massachusetts.
The tournament, in which players range in age from 17-20, features 88 teams from across North America split into two divisions. The Atlantic Canadians are scheduled to play a team to be determined on Friday and the Salem Ice Dogs on Saturday. The playoff round will follow on Sunday.
Of the 21 players selected to the team, a dozen hail from New Brunswick, four from P.E.I., three from Nova Scotia and one each from Newfoundland & Labrador and Ontario.
The Chowder Cup is considered the largest junior hockey championship in the world and is a showcase of talent for scouts and coaches looking for additions to their NCAA hockey programs in the U.S.
