July 22, 2008 07:01 PM - Mississauga pole vaulter Heather Hamilton captured a silver medal for Canada this past weekend at the 2008 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) under-23 track and field championships in Toluca, Mexico.
The third-year York University student cleared a personal-best height of four metres to take the silver behind Katie Stripling of the United States (4.35 metres).
“This is a great way for Heather to finish off her outdoor season,” York Lions’ head coach Colin Inglis said. “The experience of competing in this meet will help Heather at the OUA (Ontario) championships and the CIS (Canadian university) championships next season.”
Hamilton enjoyed an excellent summer as she also won a silver medal at the Canadian championships in Windsor with a top vault of 3.95 metres. Hamilton also finished fourth at the CIS championships in Montreal.
