July 22, 2008 10:37 PM - Peel Regional Police are investigating after another batch of suspicious meat was found in a Mississauga park, the second such discovery in less than a week.
Police say it's too early to determine if today's discovery at Tobias Mason Park, near Terragar Blvd. and Derry Rd., and the July 17 discovery of meat at Erin Woods Park, near Erin Mills Pkwy. and Erin Centre Blvd., are connected.
The meat found yesterday was seized by police and has been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto to determine if it has been tampered with, police said.
The investigation is continuing.
A resident found the meat yesterday afternoon, police said. Last Thursday, a woman walking her dog came across the meat at Erin Woods Park.
After an extensive search by Peel police and City of Mississauga parks staff, it has been determined that Tobias Mason Park is safe for use, police said.
"No further findings of suspicious meat were located during the search," said Cst. Wayne Patterson. "As a result, the park has been completely reopened."
Police remind people to keep a close eye on children and pets to ensure they don't accidentally eat harmful food or objects.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 1133 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
