A confrontation in the parking lot of a mall near the four corners in Malton last night sent one man to hospital with a bullet wound in his foot.
Peel Regional Police say a 41-year-old man and two friends were in the parking lot of a mall at 2891 Derry Rd. E., just west of Airport Rd., about 11:05 p.m. when they were confronted by another group of men.
The 41-year-old victim and one of his friends were assaulted. One of the attackers then went to a vehicle, retrieved a handgun and shot the 41-year-old in the foot.
The suspects then fled in vehicles. The victim was taken to the William Osler Hospital in Etobicoke where he was treated.
Const. Adam Minnion of Peel Police said it is not known at this time whether the victim and the suspects knew each other. There was no indication that there was a robbery attempt involved.
Investigators from the 21 division criminal investigation unit are working on the case and have some leads on suspects, Minnion said.
