Residents can expect to see more promotions encouraging walking and biking in Mississauga following a provincial grant announcement last Friday.
Charles Sousa, MPP for Mississauga South, and Helena Jaczek, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Promotion, were at J.C. Saddington Park for the announcement of $62,750 to Walk and Bike for Life, a non-profit Port Credit organization that promotes healthy, active living. The money is part of Ontario's Trails for Life Grant Program.
Gil Penalosa, Walk and Bike for Life executive director, was on hand to accept the grant and discuss walkable communities.
Upcoming promotions will encourage people to get out of their cars and choose healthier, sustainable modes of transportation. Residents will be encouraged to make use of local trails by walking, jogging, hiking and cycling.
Since its launch in 2005, the Trails for Life Grant Program has provided $2.2 million to 44 projects.
“Improving our local trails will provide residents of Mississauga with greater opportunities for recreation,” Sousa said. “Our trails are a healthy way to enjoy the outdoors while encouraging greener transportation alternatives for our community.”
