Queen's Park is delivering $14,500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Peel to help children from low-income families access recreational and after-school activities.
The Boys and Girls Club of Peel (BGCO Peel) is a non-profit agency that provides a safe and supportive program for children and youth to overcome barriers and experience new opportunities.
BGCO Peel serves 1,100 children between the ages of four and 16.
The funding, which was announced by Amrit Mangat, MPP for Mississauga-Brampton South, will also provide children with nutritious snacks.
“This investment will provide our young people with more opportunities to stay active and healthy through sports, recreation and healthy eating,” Mangat said. “By encouraging our children to eat well, stay active and take part in sporting activities, we are providing them with the foundation to make good choices in the future.”
The funding will also support a research project the Peel club is doing in collaboration with Brock University and the YMCA on youth health.
The Boys and Girls Club of Ontario serves children and youth in low-income neighbourhoods in 52 communities across Ontario.
