The Mississauga peewee Tomahawks took home the Ontario Provincial Field Lacrosse Championships in Kitchener over the weekend.
It’s safe to say that the Mississauga peewee Tomahawks thrive under pressure.
The team won three of its four games at the Ontario Provincial Field Lacrosse Championships in Kitchener over the weekend by a single goal.
Assistant coach Brad Kells credited goaltender Josh Boyko for much of the team’s success.
“Our goalie stood on his head in the first game to allow us to win,” said Kells. “He carried on with his excellence throughout the tournament.”
The Tomahawks, who repeated as peewee champions, opened with a 4-3 win over Centre Wellington, a 9-4 victory over Peterborough and an 8-7 win over Centre Wellington in the semi-finals, before taking a 7-6 count from Hamilton in the championship.
Kells and head coach Brock Simmons added that dominance on face-offs, aggressive defence and effective ball control and passing on offence were other keys to the team’s success.
Members of the championship team include attackers Bryan Kells, Nathan Blackburn, Tyler Johnson, Connor Bartlett, Tim Fisher, Jack Simmons, midfielders Mitchell Shennette, Max Lewis, Brock Simmons, Dylan Strome, Noah Robinson, Bret Walton and defenders Robert Hudson, Travis Stockfish and Braden Sullivan.
Also assisting Simmons were Nathan Blackburn and Jeff Lewis.
