They deserve their pay

Dear Editor:
Re: "Restaurant worker just wants to get paid," The News, March 24 edition.
I was shocked to come across this article and see that many workers in Ontario, and this man, in particular, have not been paid their wages.
I always thought this province ensured employees were paid accordingly; maybe I was just being naïve.
However, as I am about to enter the work force, this article is an eye-opener about what goes on behind the scenes of the work place.
I (was shocked to learn) that during 2005-2006, around $15 million that belonged to Canadian workers had not been paid. This vast amount of money would have surely made a difference in those peoples' lives.
Knowing the Ontario government is not fulfilling its duty by enforcing companies to pay their workers is not very comforting. We need to protect our workers and their rights.
The Ministry of Labour should be standing up for workers to make sure that every penny they earn does not go uncompensated. Why are we continuing to allow the work force to be treated unjustly? Surely something can be done.
