Police say the home invasion robbery took place around 9 a.m. at the White Sands Apartments on Jaguar Valley Dr. The superintendent suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are now searching for a man who is about five-foot-nine with a medium build who got away with an undisclosed quantity of cash. He was wearing a black leather coat, black pants and black shoes.
Peel Police Sgt. Zahir Shah said the firefighters quickly doused the fire that was set by the thief.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the windows of the superintendent's ground floor apartment.
Fire crews arrived at the scene to find the superintendent in the hallway.
Peel Police Robbery division is investigating.
