Vocalist gets back to the big band era

Glenn Chipkar. Mississauga vocalist Glenn Chipkar is taking his live show to the Palais Royale.

This Saturday in Toronto, Mississauga vocalist Glenn Chipkar is taking his live show back to an era when big band music was king.
Chipkar will be accompanied by the Toronto All-Star Big Band Orchestra as well as deejay Ralph Yuan for a concert at the Palais Royale. Chipkar said earlier the venue was "the place to be" in Canada when it came to big band music during the first half of the last century.
The concert features Chipkar and the band performing their take on the music of artists such as Glenn Miller, Nelson Riddle, Frank Sinatra and Count Basie, among others.
Chipkar said he hopes the music will transport people back to their youth.
"The music really helps get back that feeling of being young again," he said. "Even when I'm my dad's age and my parents are gone and I hear that music, I know I'll be a kid again. I really think there's a passion of mine that comes through in the music."
Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets cost $50.
