High-profile members of Canada's black community, such as Canadian Idol's Farley Flex, Joan Jenkinson, So You Think You Can Dance Canada's Luther Brown and Anthony Sherwood, will come to the Onyx presentation centre in City Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 28. While there, they will celebrate the launch of Sway Magazine's television issue that features interviews with innovators from the black community including Jojo Chintoh, Keshia Chante, Trey Anthony, Master T (Tony Young), Derek Friday, Degrassi actor Sarah Barrable-Tishauer and Mark Taylor from CTV's Flashpoint.
The evening will be emceed by Food Network personality, recording artist and executive chef Roger Mooking. Mooking is an ambassador for the Children's Emergency Fund and guests will be encouraged to donate to CEF, a charity that aims to provide nutritious meals to more than 70,000 school children each day through breakfast clubs, lunch and snack programs across Canada.
"We are thrilled that Onyx (officials) approached us to put on this fantastic event to promote Sway's first-ever TV issue," said Sway associate publisher and editorial director Alan A. Vernon. "It's a prime example of how Sway will work to build synergies with its advertisers to ensure a strong business relationship. But, what is even more enlightening here is how a company like Davies Smith Developments is so ahead of the curve in how they choose to connect and market to the multicultural communities of the GTA. Few advertisers understand the importance of reaching these niche cultural markets individually. And, as Canada's cultural landscape continues to change at a rapid rate, marketing to the 'mainstream' will become less and less relevant. Obviously the Onyx folks really get it. Major kudos to them."
Those in attendance will be treated to appetizers and eats prepared by Chef Olaf Mertens, the man responsible for the food at Mississauga's On The Curve Hot Stove and Wine Bar. As well, Appelton's Estate Jamaican rum will be served.
Launched in 2005, Sway Magazine bills itself as the premier lifestyle magazine for black Canadians. It publishes quarterly with a distribution of more than 50,000.
The event runs from 7-11 p.m.
