BunFest hops into Meadowvale

It's almost autumn, but it's going to seem like Easter at a Meadowvale 'bunny convention' this Sunday.
Rabbit Rescue's BunFest 2008 takes place at the Meadowvale Community Centre, 6655 Glen Erin Dr., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, with proceeds to the non-profit organization.
All rabbit owners are invited to come out with their bunnies. The pets must be in a stroller, carrier or carried in an approved harness.
Events include a bunny spa, bunny glamour shots, bunny toys and treats, a silent auction, adoption area and rabbit-savvy guest speakers from World Society for the Protection of Animals, Toronto Wildlife Centre, Toronto Cat Rescue and Guinea Pigs R Us.
Rabbits are the third most popular house pet, but very little accurate information on their care exists, says Michelle Wasyluk, Rabbit Rescue Inc.'s media manager.
“There is a lot of conflicting information out there, and most rabbit owners have no idea what a wonderful relationship they are missing out on,” said Wasyluk. “Pet rabbits are often kept in cages that are too small, get no exercise time or ever see a vet in their entire lives. Most rabbit owners are surprised to find out that a rabbit can be litter trained. We at Rabbit Rescue Inc. strive to show all rabbit owners that rabbits are loving, entertaining and wonderful companions.”
As the largest rabbit rescuer in Canada, Rabbit Rescue fields questions, adoption inquiries, surrender requests, and gives a second chance at life to as many as 500 domestic rabbits each year.
