The Dark Knight continues to soar with Mississauga-based IMAX announcing its version of the film has grossed more than $55 million worldwide.
As of today, The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience has generated $43.2 million in revenue from showings on 101 domestic screens as well as an additional $12 million from screenings in 41 international theatres.
The movie, which stars Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker, features six sequences that were filmed with IMAX cameras. Press material states it's the first time it has been done for a major feature film.
"(Director and writer) Chris Nolan's innovative vision is taking IMAX's format to new heights and his film's impact on ticket sales is unprecedented," IMAX co-chairmen and co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler said in a release.
"There's no stopping The Dark Knight," said IMAX Filmed Entertainment president and CEO Greg Foster.
