Sobey's recalls sandwiches

Mississauga-based grocery-chain Sobey's Inc. is voluntarily recalling six packaged meat sandwiches because they could potentially be contaminated with listeria.
In a press release issued this morning, Sobeys and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said, "these sandwiches contain some of the ready-to-eat deli meat products recalled by Maple Leaf Consumer Foods. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these sandwiches."
The recalled products are all cooked ham and salami submarine sandwiches on whole wheat or white bread in 900-, 450- and 225-gram sizes.
The cooked ham and salami sandwiches have been sold at Sobeys, Foodland and IGA stores in Ontario.
Food contaminated with listeria may not look or may smell spoiled. The foodborne illness can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
The Sobey's Ontario customer care department can be reached by calling 1-888-821-5557, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Canadian Food Agency can be reached at 1-800-442-2342, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
