The show, 40 Years of Collecting, features 40 pieces of work. The paintings were chosen from among 4,000 works of art owned by the gallery.
The exhibit includes work by several Mississauga artists, past and present, including Charlotte Schrieber, who lived in Erindale in the late 1800s, a 1930 work by Gertrude Spurr Cutts of the Credit River near Streetsville and art by Tom La Pierre, who currently lives in Mississauga.
Other Canadian and international paintings, photography, sculpture and prints are also on display at the gallery, including works by Tom Thomson and Andy Warhol.
"It's like a little art history lesson," said Judy Daley, assistant curator and event organizer. The show has "all kinds of styles and all sorts of art periods represented."
The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 3 at the Peel Heritage Complex (9 Wellington St. E., Brampton).
Admission is $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for seniors, $1 for students and $7 for families.
