Ukwuoma joins all-star D-line

Mississauga's Osie Ukwuoma and a few of his large friends on the defensive line of the Queen's Golden Gaels dominate the Ontario Universities Athletics (OUA) all-star team.
Ukwuoma and the Gaels, who were undefeated in the regular season, placed 10 players on the first team and six on the second team All-Star squad, announced yesterday.
The fourth-year defensive end from Mount Carmel Secondary, who led the league with 9.5 sacks, was joined on the all-league D-line by teammates Dedrick Sterling and Neil Puffer.
Derek Batchelor from Mississauga, in his third season, was one of only two University of Toronto players to make the all-star squad. It was a breakthrough season for the Blues who finally won a game after many seasons of futility.
Batchelor was picked to the OUA's second team after a stellar season, making 35.5 tackles in eight games — a statistic that placed him 19th in the league.
The third Mississaugan to make the team was Josh Bishop, a graduate of Loyola Secondary School in Erin Mills, who was selected as a second team all-star at inside receiver. He was one of seven University of Laurier Golden Hawks to make the team.
