Beauchamp won six of his seven matches to win the Canadian Open title in the Masters middleweight division and finished second in the Masters open weight division, losing on a penalty in the last minute.
Over 100 competitors from Canada, the United States and Great Britain competed in the event.
A Toronto Firefighter, Beauchamp is a 3rd degree black belt in Judo and a former member of the Canadian National Judo Team.
He currently trains in Mississauga at the Kombat Arts Training Academy which is the largest mixed martial arts facility in Canada.
“I train several times a week in submission grappling and jui jitsu and have recently started training in the Russian Martial Art Systema under Vladimir Vasiliev,” said Beauchamp. “Systema is a very unique art, it has helped me to facilitate self-actualization through the learning process of the physical, psychological, and survival skills that are offered by the Russian Martial Art system. These principals have helped me in my judo and martial arts career as well as to improve my general life skills.”
Beauchamp earned two world titles at the World Submission Grappling Championships in Jersey City on April 21, capturing both the Gi and No-Gi classifications.
The 48-year-old won all six of his matches to win the championship belts.
A third degree black belt and former Canadian national judo team member, Beauchamp won against other fighters who use the judo technique, as well as the all-around title against mixed martial artists.
The one-day event, organized by the North American Grappling Association (NAGA), featured over 2,000 competitors from 10 countries.
