After countless disputes with a neighbour to the rear of their Port Credit home, including fencing, building and property line issues, the Bay St. residents took matters into their own hands Friday afternoon.
With several neighbours, including Mississauga Citizen of the Year Hugh Stewart, cheering him on, Michael Homes used a chain saw and other equipment to cut down his neighbour's fence.
The Homes' claim the fence is on their side of the property line and, therefore, the neighbour needed their approval to build it.
"This fence is on our property, but he continues to ignore our concerns," Michael Homes said, adding that neither the City of Mississauga nor Peel Regional Police would do anything about the matter. "This is the only way to resolve this. I fully expect to get arrested."
Police did respond on Friday after the neighbour, Peter Nolet, called them. There was no word Friday night on whether charges would be laid.
Nolet wouldn't talk with The News, despite repeated attempts to speak with him.
Michael Homes said the last few years have been a struggle with the neighbour, who lives on Front St. A hearing before the Ontario Municipal Board concerning Nolet's decision to split his property so two homes can be built is ongoing.
