Dinner tickets available for McCallion golf event

Most people are familiar with all the good work accomplished thanks to money raised at the Hazel McCallion Charity Golf Tournament since its inception 25 years ago.
However, they might not be as familiar with the amazing auction items that help raise the much-needed dollars.
This year's tournament tees off tomorrow at Lionhead Golf and Country Club and there are a slew of great items up for auction. Last year's event raised in excess of $90,000.
The Mississauga News' publisher Ron Lenyk will act as the official auctioneer and help bring in the bids on the items generously donated by the community.
Some of the items in the live auction include:
• a limo drive and dinner for six friends at Bistro 1603
• four Toronto Maple Leafs tickets, four Toronto Blue Jays tickets and four court-side Toronto Raptors tickets
• two hospitality class, round-trip tickets within Canada and the domestic United States through Air Canada
• a dinner for seven with Mayor Hazel McCallion at the Living Arts Centre, followed by a show
• a round of golf for eight, plus a meal at the Taboo Resort in Gravenhurst
• a Comfort 13 Series air conditioner, complete with installation
• a two-night stay in a signature club room at the Delta Chelsea, plus dinner at Captain John's Harbour Boat Restaurant and tickets to a Toronto Raptors basketball game
• an Ottawa Senators jersey autographed by Jason Spezza, Ray Emery and Eugene Melnyk
• tickets to a Toronto Maple Leafs game plus a jersey signed by Johnny Bower and a copy of his book, The China Wall
• an autographed Detroit Red Wings jersey from perennial Norris Trophy candidate Nicklas Lidstrom plus two tickets to a Toronto Maple Leafs exhibition game
Some of the silent auction items include gift certificates to restaurants such as Spoon and Fork and Ruth's Chris Steak House, a Stage West Theatre romance package, box seats to a Mississauga St. Michael's Majors game at the Hershey Centre as well as a golf and dinner package for four at the Peninsula Lakes Golf Club, among others.
Funds raised at the tournament will go to charities including the Jerry Love Children’s Fund, Success By Six – Mississauga HUB School Programs, Breakfast With Santa Foundation - Maggie Steacy Memorial Summer Breakfast Program, the Cadets of Mississauga Building Fund and Hazel’s Hope.
Almost 300 golfers are expected to participate.
Although the tournament is sold out, seats are available for the dinner portion of the evening.
Tickets cost $150 and can be purchased by calling The News at 905-273-8111.
