Courtroom drama on at Erindale Studio Theatre

The language and on-stage action are the only things salty about Calliope Sounds Productions' latest show, Nuts, playing through Sunday at Erindale Studio Theatre.
The show, written by Tom Topor and directed by Tony Junor, is billed as a courtroom drama set in a wing of New York City's Bellevue Mental Hospital. The story follows high-priced hooker Claudia Draper (Kris Light), who's arrested for the murder of one of her johns.
However, before she can stand trial for murder, she must prove she's not insane. When it comes to trial, everyone, including her own lawyer, expects her to use the insanity defence.
Draper shocks everyone when she refuses to plead. Shortly thereafter, she fires her lawyer.
Prosecutor Franklin MacMillian (Chris Herchmer) has been charged with the task of making the state's case. In his role, he pulls together a list of witnesses that includes the psychiatrist (Andrew Jackson) who interviewed Draper when she first arrived at the mental hospital and her parents (Lori Keonen and John Scholl).
With a court-appointed defence lawyer (Alex Bodnar) representing her, Draper has to prove her sanity without the use of witnesses or doctors.
Show officials warn those interested in attending that there's strong adult content and language in the play, and children should not attend.
Tickets cost $12-$15.
