May 9, 2008 08:19 PM - Dear Editor:
When the Liberals were the government more than a decade ago, they promised Canadians everything from safety from crime to the environmental reforms and taxed us to pay for it.
What did Canadians get in return? Zero progress towards Kyoto and a greener country. Billions of dollars wasted in a firearms registry that has never prevented a single crime. Yet our taxes continued to climb.
Now, the current Liberals are telling Canadians that they will impose taxes across the board that would increase the costs of driving, heating our homes, feeding our families, so that we could get a tax break?
Stephane Dion claims that the cost to Canadians will be balanced out by a tax refund. Does Dion think Canadians have forgotten the huge cost overruns of the firearms registry and pretty much any other national program enacted by Liberal governments?
The current Conservative government has somehow been able to reduce taxes felt by every Canadian for yet another consecutive year.
Dion has basically stated that he wants to have Canadians fork out nearly $20 billion more than they do currently in order to give them a tax break of an equal amount at the end of the year.
It reminds me of the old phrase, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
